Thank you for helping us make history.
With the first presidential debate of the 2012 campaign now behind us, it’s time to thank the many people and groups that made the event so successful.
Kudos to our alumni for embracing this event with enthusiasm. Nowhere was that more evident than on debate day, when, all across the nation and all around the world, alumni staged debate watch parties and cheered on their alma mater. Alumni also contributed to our Moment in Time photo gallery, a special souvenir of this momentous day.
A special thanks goes to our business and residential neighbors, who graciously accommodated everything from street closures to traffic disruptions.
Across the city and state, a number of people, agencies and organizations pitched in to help with logistics and operations. Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock were unfailing supporters of our efforts. In addition, the University thanks the City and County of Denver, the State of Colorado, the Denver Police Department, the Regional Transportation District, Denver International Airport, the Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Downtown Denver Partnership for help with everything from traffic management and crowd control to hospitality for out-of-town visitors.
A big round of applause goes to our students, faculty and staff, all of whom worked tirelessly throughout the last year to ensure a full calendar of events, a festive culture and smooth operations. In the months and weeks leading up the debate, the University hosted more than 100 related events—everything from lectures to film screenings. More than 25,000 people attended these events, and all of them required support from the University community.
Debates are critical to a citizenry’s decision-making process. They offer one of the best ways for voters to evaluate the candidates for the highest office in the nation. In fulfillment of our vision, to be a great private university dedicated to the public good, we took great pride in hosting and fostering a civil exchange of ideas and views.
Thank you for helping us make history.
